Molecular You received this honour with Chief Informatics Officer and co-founder Dr. David Wishart.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Nov. 29, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Molecular You is proud to announce it is a 2018 recipient of a TEC Edmonton Spin-Off Achievement Award for the commercialization of personalized health technologies developed in part by the University of Alberta’s The Metabolomics Innovation Centre (TMIC). The award was presented yesterday afternoon alongside other innovators recognized for their novel contributions.
Molecular You received this honour with Dr. David Wishart, the founder and platform leader of TMIC and the Chief Informatics Officer and a co-founder of Molecular You. Dr. Wishart has made many ground-breaking contributions to science. He led the Human Metabolome Project, a multi-university, multi-investigator project that catalogued all of the known metabolites in human tissues and bio-fluids. The University of Alberta recently recognized Dr. Wishart with the title of Distinguished University Professor and the Alumni Award.
The healthcare system is under increasing pressure to deliver high quality care effectively and efficiently. Population wide advances have been effective at improving health, but new technologies like those employed by Molecular You can transform health management to be tailored to each unique individual. Better matching of therapies to the individual and the disease can significantly improve the safety and efficiency of treatment. The most effective way to reduce costs and suffering is by preventing disease from happening.
“Molecular You is honoured to receive this award with Dr. David Wishart. His team’s metabolome research has been instrumental in establishing our world-leading capabilities in personalized, preventive health,” commented Dr. Rob Fraser, Co-founder, President and CEO of Molecular You. “Thanks to David’s contributions, our technologies enable us to understand an individual’s current health status and future health risks and provide the insights to take action to prevent chronic health issues.”
“We are committed to advancing these world-leading technologies to deliver personalized, preventive health management, with the goal of reducing the costs and burden of chronic disease.”
““The foundation of this company was built with the vision to bring personalized health to Canadians and beyond,” Dr. Fraser further explained. “Our health assessments analyze metabolites, environmental exposures, proteins and genetics, making it the most comprehensive health assessment in North America. We are committed to advancing these world-leading technologies to deliver personalized, preventive health management, with the goal of reducing the costs and burden of chronic disease.”
Molecular You health assessments provide insights into personal health risks and give practical individualized nutrition and exercise plans to empower clients to manage their own health care goals. Working together with practitioners and corporations, Molecular You has a range of packages to suit health concerns and priorities, that with genetics, can also help to optimize medication efficacy and safety.
The Metabolomics Innovation Centre (TMIC) is a nationally-funded core facility that provides novel technologies for identifying and quantifying chemicals or metabolites in a wide range of biological samples. TMIC provides services to Canadian and international researchers as well as develops innovative bioinformatics tools and analytical methods for metabolomics research.
The platform is led by Dr. David Wishart (University of Alberta), Dr. Christoph Borchers (Universities of Victoria and McGill), Dr. Liang Li (University of Alberta), Dr. James Harynuk (University of Alberta), Dr. Michael Overduin (University of Alberta), and Dr. Philip Britz-McKibbin (McMaster University).
